DIY: Plastic Spoon Pendant Light

I don't know about you but I have often wondered what to do with all the plastic spoons that I have recycled over the years. Now I have stumbled upon something that I think is quite pretty given that it is made entirely out of plastic spoons!
I have translated the instructions for you as they are originally in Spanish but you may see the original post here

drum roll please.........ta da!

Materials required to make the light:
  • Approx. 200 disposable spoons (could be more).
  • A round 5 liter bottle of water.
  • Glue Gun
  • A box cutter
  • A lamp holder
  • A plug
  • Cable
  • Cutters
  • Pliers
  • Screwdriver
It's so easy to make this lamp that you can do it with your kids. Here is a picture of the materials just in case you were not sure.

2. Cut out the bottom of the bottle.

3. Then you stagger and glue the spoons in stages around the entire bottle.

4. To prepare the top circle you must glue the spoons inside one another to form a ring. See the picture.

5. Then you pierce the cap of the bottle and thread your cable through. Once this is done you will take the cable with the light at the end and pull it through the large opening at the bottom up through the bottle and out through the top. Then you will close the bottle cap and be left with the cable to be hung.

6. You will then glue the ring around the bottle cap and this should be your final result:

This is not part of the original post but you can also go to IKEA and get their HEMMA light kit which can be easily adapted for a ceiling light. The cord is a bit wider though so you may prefer doing it all from scratch but I thought I'd mention it anyways.
