Fashion Designer Jenni Kayne's Rustic Contemporary Home

Jenni Kayne designed her house the way she designs her clothes, simple & chic. This house is on my top 10 list of most coveted. I love the contemporary rustic mix and the entrance in the photo above just blew me away. For the complete story please read the commentary on popsugar.

This beautiful photograph is by Richard Misrach and I absolutely love it!

Sigh......what a house

Mason Jar Magic - Holiday Special

I love Mason jars and I love getting them filled with yummy things to eat and drink so I thought I'd post a few of my favorite Mason jar presents from around the web.

How about some Hot Chocolate along with some great toppings. Sure to warm you up on those cold winter nights.
I couldn't resist this one given the play on words. It's a great idea to thank your guests for coming over and saying hello and it's a low cal snack to boot!
Is there any better kid pleaser than a Mason jar filled with cookies and topped with a Dinosaur?
Have a Jurassic Party and give them as favors.
and for those of you who would prefer to give something other than food, why not consider this sewing kit from anthropologie.

Happy giving!

Felt Ball Coaster

Super easy and fun to make, these felt ball coasters will spruce up any decor during those cold winter months. All you need are some felt balls (90-100 1 cm balls per coaster), some cheap coasters - I used some plastic ones I found at IKEA - and some E600 glue.

Start by gluing the first felt ball in the center of the coaster and work your way around.

Rustic Inspiration

This time of year always makes me wish I had a Country place. I love the outdoors and I especially love the Fall when all the leaves are changing colors and the sun surprises you with a warm day. Sitting outside covered in a wool blanket, having a cup of tea and reading a magazine or knitting is one of my favorite things to do. It makes me feel like there is an endless amount of possibilities around the corner...

Felting class Fun

This is Regina who was in from Brazil to meet her new granddaughter (her daughter is sitting next to her) and she created this gorgeous bunny with big pink ears.

This is an action photo of Isa (Regina's daughter) who decided to make this cute little Hampster. He's still a work in progress. Truth be told Isa's a bit obsessive detail oriented when it comes to her needle felting so it took her a little longer.

and finally this is our teacher - the lovely and talented Samantha who is holding this totally real looking gnome (admit it, you'd scream if you woke up and saw him at the foot of your bed) . Sam is a fiber genius. If there was a Superhero that improved peoples lives with knitted and felted stuff Sam would be it. Hey she already does that so I think I'll call her "Fiberwoman" (sorry Sam for when you read this!).

I have created a dinosaur whom is currently missing his pink spots but when he's finished, DINO (yes I called him Dino) is GOING TO ROCK!

A simple pop of yellow

What an awesome kitchen with it's gray cabinets + walls and joyful pop of yellow in the middle of it all.

Het Atelier Interieur

Het Atelier has done some very nice projects but this one is my favorite. The combination of rustic and contemporary as well as contemporary and antique elements has my heart beating  off the charts. I  love the textured cement floor, irregular built in shelving and black accessories combined with all that marble in the kitchen.

This glass pendant light adds just the right amount of color in this neutral space!

Totally smitten with the wood plank flooring.

This powder room is just so cool! Refined, simple and ethnic all at once.
If I could re-do my small bathroom I would do it like this.

Wedding Flowers - Part 2

Last weekend I posted about the test flowers we bought for my brother's impending wedding. These are the three centerpieces that my soon to be sister in law Luisa made. Aren't they pretty! I just love the pop of color from the two tone roses. The last bouquet also has the pearl garland which adds a touch of wedding glamour.

Beautiful Kitchen

I love this kitchen with the it's creamy cupboards, marble backsplash and rustic wood door and floors. Quite the contrast, which I love of course!

Wedding Flowers

I got up early this morning to meet my brother and his fiancĂ©e at the flower wholesaler to pick up some potential flowers for their wedding centerpieces. So many flowers to choose from but these are the ones we liked the best (so far) - there are some other flowers in the back that you can't see but I don't want to spoil the surprise so I'm only showing you the front....gotta leave something out for now.

A loft in kIev designed by Slava Balbek

I am love love loving this loft designed by Slava Balbek from 2b.group. The cement ceilings, wood floors, and rustic contemporary mix have set my heart on fire!
I also like Slava's artwork, shown in the dining room above. He seems to be quite the talented guy. Check out Slava's artwork on Behance.

Remember this photo of Iggy Pop! Wow, talk about a blast from the past!

Home Made Almond Butter

There is nothing like home made almond butter. Rich, creamy and preservative free this butter is packed with protein and dietary goodness so when the little red house posted a how to on her blog I just had to share. Click here for full recipe.

Little house by the Lake

This little house built by 2by4 is a testament to it's smalldom. Fully functional with a kitchen, bathroom, living room and dining room, it is the perfect country escape. First seen here.

Road Trip

I have been working hard this last little while and so I've been a little absent from my blog but I am going to be back this week with pictures of a few of the projects I've been working on. I recently visited "Lavandou" a lavender farm, and here I am looking through some prints in the barn come studio.

DIY: Copper Salt & Pepper Shakers

This is one of the easiest tutorials you'll ever see. All you need are some IKEA salt & pepper shakers and some copper contact paper and you're good to go. Full tutorial here

Recycled bottles feed stray dogs in Istanbul

Sometimes it's hard to find the good in the world, especially these days with planes being shot out of the sky, wars all over the place and a plague in Africa. I mean what else can happen right? Well today I found a wonderful piece of information on one of my favorite websites called Unconsumption that I am sure will make you smile.

Pugedon, a Turkish company, has created a vending machine that dispenses food for stray animals when you deposit your empty bottle or can into the slot on the side. Just pop your bottle or can into the machine and food comes out the bottom. If you put some water in the corresponding water slot, this water will also be dispensed at the bottom in a separate dish. These machines cost the city nothing and the recycled bottles cover the cost of the food. What a wonderful way to feed the stray animals who are often starving and reliant on our help. Now doesn't that make you feel better? It certainly did me. Here's the video.

Contemporary Home in Australia

This is a home for sale in Australia and when I found one of the pictures on desiretoinspire I wanted to see the whole place. I'm glad I did. This inside-outiside home is quirky but delightful. I love the bedrooms and how they all have a link to the outdoors not to mention that awesome living room with glassed in fireplace and exterior patios. Absolutely lovely. I would move in tomorrow! Full listing here.
