Gardening 101

Paint your pots with blackboard paint so you can identify what's in them!

Plant alliums such as the "allium fistulosum" or Welsh Onion beside roses to keep away aphids.

If you want to go a step further and avoid insects in general you should plant some lemon scented foliage in your garden. Lemon scented Thyme will kick some serious butt as most insects can't stand the smell.
