Recyled plastic made into shoes

Being an animal lover and avid recycler nothing breaks my heart more than to see pictures of birds who have swallowed plastic or sea turtles that are stuck in drink wrappers. Try as we might to reduce plastic, it is still turning up on the shores of many beaches. As such, three friends, Charles Duffy, William Gubbins, and Billy Turvey, got together to come up with a way of communicating the link between waste and consumerism, “and the disposability of contemporary products” in a project they call “Everything You Buy Is Rubbish”. Using plastic waste they found along UK shores the three friends made a pair of shoes out of the rubbish they found. Check out the video on design milk to see how they did it.

Modern Dream Home in Hatley

This is it! I have finally found my Dream Home!!
Of course it's $1,150,000 so I won't be buying it any time soon however I did think that it was worth showing you. The decor is exactly what I love, clean lines and uncluttered and the raw wood table in the dining room is absolutely gorgeous! The only thing I'd change are the gray couches in the living room as I don't find them contemporary enough for the space. The rest is fantastic though and oh boy what a view!

Outdoor Breakfast Nook

I love this secluded breakfast nook. Perfect for your morning coffee and catching up with the world via your newspaper or tablet.

Lavender home office

Isn't this office serene? I love the desk on wheels combined with the wood stools, lavender walls and white trim. Feels very Zen to me. What do you think? Would you like working here?

Modern Metal

Reminiscent of the workshop lamp (you know the one, the light your father had in his garage, it had a metal base housing a light bulb and was covered in a metal cage just like this one) the TULL brings industrial into the home in a big way. Designed by Tommaso Caldera for Incipit, this light means business. No more being segregated to the garage or workshop, this light is right at home IN the home.

425 square ft of Heaven

This is a 425 sq ft loft of sheer beauty created by Specht Harpman Architects and located in New York. The loft, presently open and light filled, was once a gloomy mess. Click here to see the full transformation.

I am absolutely loving this under the stair storage.

So what did you think of this loft? Could you live there? I sure could!

From Garbage to Gorgeous

I admire the Brits. They are so industrious when it comes to re-using materials in an unusual way and this house is just another example of their brilliance. Made almost solely from waste and recycled materials, this house, constructed at the University of Brighton's Grand Parade campus, is an ongoing experiment in waste management. The story of how it was built is worth the read. Can you imagine walls filled with used video cassettes and jeans for insulation? How about toothbrushes? Click here for the whole story and all 54 pictures of the process.

Walls filled with jeans and video cassettes act as insulation.
