Thursday, January 31, 2013 Edible Flowers

Some flowers are not only beautiful to look at but great to eat as well! My first experience with edible flowers was when my brother popped some garden greens into the middle of a white plate, drizzled on some dressing and then surrounded them with some beautiful nasturtiums. Needless to say the salad was not only beautiful to look at but incredibly good. Every time I see nasturtiums I see that salad. However, not all flowers are edible so you have to be careful. The Gardenista did a wonderful post on edible flowers which you can read here.

Monday, January 28, 2013 Up-Cycled Book Table Runner

Although an argument can be made that this table runner is not re-usable, I still like the idea. Especially for a book club lunch or gathering. What better table setting than the pages from an old book? You could protect the runner with place mats but I wonder if there is some flexible mod podge coating that could be applied to the pages to make them more durable. I'll have to look into that as I'd like to try this!

Friday, January 25, 2013 Concrete Creation

I have a thing for concrete and cement interiors these days so when I fell upon a post about this home in the Swiss Alps, I just had to repost.  These two rooms belong to Vila Vals - a home built into the side of a mountain with unspoiled views and access only via a neighboring shed. Quite the project and quite the design. For the full story please click here. In the mean time please feel free to fall in love with the kitchen as did I.

Wednesday, January 23, 2013 Brown and Black

I find the combination of black and brown sooooo sexy. It brings out the adventurer in me. I always feel like I should be going on Safari or writing my memoirs every time I see a picture like the one above. I just looove that leather journal. I have quite the collection of journals and I still write everything longhand (I know, I know, I'm a dinosaur) but there is just something about the written word that makes it more personal to me. What about you? Do you ever write longhand or is it computer or iPad only?

Tuesday, January 22, 2013 Up-Cycled Barn Wood Kitchen

Isn't this kitchen awesome! All the cabinets are made of up-cycled barn wood not to mention the shelf and dining room table (see a small part of it in the photo below). Just about everything in this kitchen has been either up-cycled or re-purposed and although it's a bit too rustic for me, I'm a big fan.

Friday, January 18, 2013 Eco-Friendly Home Office

I Loooooooooove this backyard home office. I am totally beside myself with envy!!
From the pea gravel patio and stepping stone walkway to the little deck and charred wood siding a la shou-sugi-ban (using this process makes the wood resistant to fire, rot and pests) this home office ROCKS!.

Thursday, January 17, 2013 Starbucks + Upcycled Shipping Containers = New Store

How innovative is Starbucks to have their walk-up store and drive through made out of refurbished shipping containers. Located in Tukwila, Seattle, this is the first one of their Coffeehouse's to be made out of refurbished containers and there is definitely no lack of design. Bravo Starbucks!

Monday, January 14, 2013 Indoor Outdoor Room

Indoor - Outdoor rooms are my favorite kind of rooms. I just love the idea of being outside and inside at the same time. Never mind that this place also has a great view!

Friday, January 11, 2013 DIY: Cardbaord Pendant Light

I love pendant lights especially DIY pendant lights (as you'll notice if you go through the DIY section!) and this one caught my eye today while surfing the internet. It isn't hard to do and the materials are next to nothing so all in all it's a very economical light to make. For complete instructions please click here.

Thursday, January 10, 2013 Bloomingville at the Beach!

Bloomingville has their new catalog out and I have, of course, selected the beach photos for your perusal (I just love the beach). However there are many more spectacular photos and products on their website. Please visit it here
I can certainly see myself lazing around in that hammock or sitting with my hubby in this beautiful chair, torches lit, watching the sun go down......
