Artist Ana Montiel for Nina Ricci

I love to see the creative process that Artists and Designers go through and these drafts are no exception. The following illustrations are by Artist Ana Montiel and were created for Nina Ricci's recent perfume campaign. The illustrations are called "Collection Cristal" and I find them just stunning.

Leap Day Marriage Proposal by Women

According to Irish lore a woman can propose to a man on February 29th - Leap day. This is apparently due to a deal  St. Bridget struck with St. Patrick to allow women to propose to men every 4 years in order to balance the traditional roles of men and women in a similar way to how Leap Day balances the calendar.

In some places, Leap Day has been known as “Bachelors’ Day” for the same reason. A man was expected to pay a penalty such as a gown or money if he refused a marriage proposal from a woman on Leap Day.
In Denmark tradition dictates that any man who refuses a woman's proposal on February 29 has to buy her 12 pairs of gloves. The intention is that the woman can wear the gloves to hide the embarrassment of not having an engagement ring.
In Finland the tradition is that if a man refuses a woman's proposal on leap day he should buy her the fabrics for a skirt.
So, ladies, this is your chance. If the man you love is taking his sweet time to propose, Leap day is your day!

Tatty Tales

I don't much like the permanence of Tattoo's. Given that I am someone who likes continuous change, having a permanent ink mark on my body makes me shudder. The idea of having a tattoo that I can change with my mood or with what I'm wearing is much more appealing to me. This is where Tatty comes in. This company makes temporary tattoo designs. A set of two tattoo's goes for $5.00 which includes shipping inside the USA. Check out some of their work!

Nail Art - Introducing Miss Ladyfinger

I recently saw a post about Miss Ladyfinger on Honestly WTF's blog and was quite intrigued. As it turns out her manicures are no ordinary manicures. Miss Ladyfinger recreates runway fashions on her fingernails and offers tutorials on how you can do the same. Simply awesome! Thank you Lauren for bringing her to our attention!

Crochet Charm

I love hand made clothing. I used to sew up a storm when I was in Fashion Design school (not that I had any choice!) and I loved the fact that I wasn't limited to a certain color or pattern. I could make anything I wanted. My mom was a great knitter and could crochet afghans with her eyes closed. I however, did not inherit that gene and so I must admire the handiwork of those that did such as Ninela from Sub rosa. Check out some of her handiwork below (I especially love the wedding dress - it's so very romantic!).

What a beautiful wedding dress! I can just visualize a knight in shining armor coming to her side!
